What activities can you do on a paddle board?

Paddle boards have been flying off the shelves like hot cakes over the past two years, but you might be wondering; apart from gently paddling along my local river or lake, what can I actually do on a paddleboard?

Well it’s a reasonable question, which is why we are going to highlight some of the fun activities you can do whilst on a paddleboard.

Touring with a paddleboard

Paddleboarding is simply moving along the water on a SUP, and touring is a natural extension of that. It describes the activity of moving from one distinct destination to another. Touring is a great chance to explore brilliant areas of the UK, whether that is the Lake District or sections of our wonderful coastline.

Fishing

An activity that is similarly serene to the gentle paddling action you use whilst on the board, fishing is the perfect activity to pair with paddleboarding. It also gives you a chance to be still and relax, because fishing is an activity that requires great patience. The fish are moving on their own timeline, not to the rigid schedule of your day. If you have already gone for different fishing activities, e.g. hired a Fishing Charter in Crystal River for some underwater fun, then this could be a relaxing opposite that you can do by yourself or with others.

There is a growing community of people who do fishing whilst sitting on the edge of their inflatable paddle board. Unlike a large fishing boat, which some fishes have learned to avoid; the profile of a paddleboard is similar to that of a dolphin so they are often ignored and go about their regular business.

Surfing

Less gentle and tranquil than fishing, surfing is one of the most fun activities you can do on a paddleboard. For those of you who love the waves and have a primal urge to be amongst them, surfing is the activity for you. However, it would be highly advisable to do some surfing lessons with a surf school like Everyday California (www.everydaycalifornia.com/products/surf-lessons, for those interested) or a trained instructor before you go off to face the waves on a whim.

Racing

This isn’t a peaceful activity and won’t be for everyone, but if you are looking for an adrenaline filled thing to do on your paddleboarding; racing is the activity for you. Paddleboarding is a sport, and racing is a chance to do the sport of paddleboarding in a competitive manner. Competing in a race is a way of marking your development. You can find local races online, or just arrange a more casual race between you and your paddleboarding friends.

Yoga

Whilst it might sound odd, Paddleboard yoga is an activity that’s on the rise! With a platform the size of a yoga matt on the water, a paddleboard adds another level of challenge and forces you to be even more careful with your movements during your yoga session.

If you are in a tropical location, you have the chance to do yoga immersed in the wildlife of the water, such as passing fishes or dolphins if you are lucky.

Hopefully our list of fun activities you can do whilst on yourpaddle board has been illuminating, and inspired you to get back on the water.
