3 Healthy Eating Tips To Follow On Vacation

While taking a vacation can be great, coming home from vacation with an extra ten pounds on your body and a waistline that now looks more like a muffin top isn’t something that people generally look forward to. But because so many people feel like a vacation is the perfect time to indulge, this is the reality that a lot of people face upon returning home.

Luckily, this doesn’t have to be the case for you. You can still enjoy all types of foods while on vacation without packing on a lot of extra weight. To help you see how this can be possible, here are three healthy eating tips to follow while you’re on vacation.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast

While we’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, this couldn’t be more true than when you’re on vacation. If you’re going to be spending your day walking around a new city, exploring landmarks or museums, or going on any kind of adventure, you’re going to want to be sure that you’ve fueled your body adequately for these things.

To help you with this, Jenna Rennert, a contributor to Vogue.com, shares that you should never skip breakfast while on vacation. If you do, you’re much more likely to opt for unhealthy foods later on in the morning or afternoon, which is where your weight gain could be coming from. So rather than setting yourself up for failure first thing in the morning, try to eat at least some protein and fruit before you set off in the mornings.

Avoid Fast Food

Although you might have a very tight schedule on your travels, if you’re wanting to make healthier choices with your food, Lori Rice, a contributor to USA Today, recommends that you try to avoid eating fast food as much as possible.

While it can take up more time to sit down at a restaurant or prepare your own meals wherever you’re staying, doing so will allow you to be pickier about what you eat, have more options for healthy foods, and give you the chance to swap out things like fries for a salad.

Choose One Treat A Day

Depending on where it is you’re traveling, choosing just one treat each day could be rather challenging. But if you keep this rule in mind while you’re on the road, Elaine Magee, a contributor to WebMD.com, you’ll still be able to try foods you’ve never had, treats you’ve always wanted to try, or eat something special that catches your eye without having to worry about overindulging.

If you’re worried about gaining too much weight while you’re on vacation, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make healthier food choices while on the road.
